Big Island
THE
of Hawai‘i
Big Island Context
Hawai‘i Island, or more colloquially known as the Big Island, didn't get its nickname by accident. Encompassing an area that could hold the rest of the Hawaiian islands within its boundaries, and guarded by five distinct volcanoes, the Big Island, is, well, BIG. The island also has 11 out of the world's 13 microclimates, from dry arid deserts, to snow-capped mountains, and everything in-between.
Whatever you call it, the Big Island is unlike any other place in the world. The newest of the Hawaiian Islands, and still growing everyday due to the steady stream of lava oozing out of Kiluaea (the world's most active volcano), the Big Island is the perfect active vacation lovers dream come true.
